[211] Bhikkhus, when a bhikkhu is one who abuses and reviles his fellows in the holy life, a maligner of the noble ones, five dangers (ādīnava) may be expected for him. What five? Either he commits a pārājika offense, being cut off [from the path]; or he falls into some other defiled offense; or he contracts a severe disease and affliction; or he dies (kālaṃ karoti) confused; or, with the breakup of the body, after death, he is reborn in a state of loss (apāya), a bad destination (duggati), the lower world (vinipāta), hell (niraya). Bhikkhus, when a bhikkhu is one who abuses and reviles his fellows in the holy life, a maligner of the noble ones, these five dangers may be expected for him.
