[210] Bhikkhus, there are these five dangers (ādīnava) for one who falls asleep with muddled mindfulness, not clearly comprehending. What five? He sleeps in suffering (dukkha); he awakens in suffering; he sees evil dreams; the deities do not protect him; semen is emitted. These, bhikkhus, are the five dangers for one who falls asleep with muddled mindfulness, not clearly comprehending.
Bhikkhus, there are these five benefits (ānisaṃsa) for one who falls asleep with mindfulness established, clearly comprehending. What five? He sleeps happily; he awakens happily; he does not see evil dreams; the deities protect him; semen is not emitted. These, bhikkhus, are the five benefits for one who falls asleep with mindfulness established, clearly comprehending.
