[226] Bhikkhus, there are these five dangers (ādīnava) for a bhikkhu who frequents families, dwelling in association with families beyond the proper time. What five? Frequent seeing of women; when there is seeing, there is close contact; when there is close contact, there is intimacy; when there is intimacy, there is an opening [for lust]; for one whose mind (citta) has been invaded [by lust], this is to be expected: either he will live the holy life dissatisfied, or he will fall into some defiled offence, or he will give up the training and return to the lower life. These, bhikkhus, are the five dangers for a bhikkhu who frequents families, dwelling in association with families beyond the proper time.
