[229] Bhikkhus, there are these five dangers (ādīnava) in a black snake (kaṇhasappa). What five? It is impure, foul-smelling, timid, fearsome, and it betrays friends. These, bhikkhus, are the five dangers in a black snake. In the same way, bhikkhus, there are these five dangers in women (mātugāma). What five? They are impure, foul-smelling, timid, fearsome, and they betray friends. These, bhikkhus, are the five dangers in women.
