[59] Bhikkhus, one gone forth in old age (vuḍḍhapabbajita) who is endowed with five qualities is rare. With which five is one gone forth in old age rare, bhikkhus? One who is astute (nipuṇa) is rare; one accomplished in deportment (ākappasampanna) is rare; one of great learning (bahussuta) is rare; one who is a speaker on the Dhamma (dhammakathika) is rare; one who is an upholder of the discipline (vinayadhara) [is rare].
