[221] Bhikkhus, when a family possesses nine factors, if one has not yet approached it, it is not worth approaching; or if one has approached it, it is not worth sitting down there. Which nine? They do not rise up in welcome with pleasure; they do not pay homage with pleasure; they do not offer a seat with pleasure; they conceal what they have; when they have much, they give little; when they have what is fine, they give what is coarse; they give without respect, not with respect; they do not sit near to listen to the Dhamma; and they do not delight in what he says. Bhikkhus, when a family possesses these nine factors, if one has not yet approached it, it is not worth approaching; or if one has approached it, it is not worth sitting down there.
