[213] Bhikkhus, when a bhikkhu is one who abuses and reviles his fellows in the holy life (brahmacārī), a reproacher of the noble ones, it is impossible, there is no chance, that he would not incur one or another of eleven disasters (byasana). Which eleven? He does not attain what he has not yet attained; he falls away from what he has attained; the true Dhamma (saddhamma) does not become clear to him; or he overestimates himself with regard to the true Dhamma; or he lives the holy life (brahmacariya) dissatisfied; or he commits a certain defiled offense; or, having given up the training (sikkhā), he reverts to the lower life; or he is stricken by a grave illness and affliction; or he goes mad, with derangement of mind (citta); he dies confused; and with the breaking up of the body, after death, he is reborn in a state of loss, a bad destination, the lower realm, hell. Bhikkhus, when a bhikkhu is one who abuses and reviles his fellows in the holy life, a reproacher of the noble ones, it is impossible, there is no chance, that he would not incur one or another of these eleven disasters.
