[101] 7. Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Sāvatthī, in Jeta's Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika's Park. Now on that occasion the Venerable Sāriputta was seated not far from the Blessed One, having folded his legs crosswise and set his body erect — of few wishes, content, secluded, unentangled, with energy (vīriya) aroused, devoted to the higher mind (adhicitta). The Blessed One saw the Venerable Sāriputta seated not far away, having folded his legs crosswise and set his body erect — of few wishes, content, secluded, unentangled, with energy aroused, devoted to the higher mind.
Then the Blessed One, having understood this matter, at that time uttered this inspired utterance (udāna):
"For one of higher mind, who is heedful,
a sage (muni) training in the paths of sagehood,
sorrows do not exist —
for such a one (tādī), at peace, ever possessed of mindfulness (sati)."
