[109] 10. Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Sāvatthī, in the Jetavana, Anāthapiṇḍika's park. Now on that occasion the Venerable Sāriputta was seated not far from the Blessed One, having folded his legs crosswise and set his body erect, reviewing his own peace (upasama). The Blessed One saw the Venerable Sāriputta seated not far away, having folded his legs crosswise and set his body erect, reviewing his own peace.
Then the Blessed One, having understood this matter, on that occasion uttered this inspired utterance (udāna):
For the bhikkhu whose mind (citta) is stilled and at peace,
whose cord that leads on (netti) has been cut,
the wandering-on through births (jātisaṃsāra) is utterly exhausted:
he is freed from the bond of Māra.
End of the tenth sutta.
The Meghiya Chapter (Meghiyavagga), the fourth, is concluded.
Its summary (uddāna):
Meghiya,[1] the restless ones, the cowherd, Juṇhā,[2] with the bull-elephant as the fifth;
Piṇḍola and Sāriputta, and Sundarī is the eighth;
Upasena Vaṅgantaputta, and Sāriputta — these are the ten.
