[123] Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Sāvatthī, in the Jetavana, Anāthapiṇḍika's Park. Now on that occasion the Venerable Kaṅkhārevata was seated not far from the Blessed One, having folded his legs crosswise and set his body erect, reviewing his own purification by overcoming doubt (kaṅkhāvitaraṇavisuddhi). Then the Blessed One, having understood the meaning of this, at that time uttered this inspired utterance (udāna):
"Whatever doubts (kaṅkhā) there may be, here or beyond,
whether known by oneself or known by others—
those who meditate abandon them all,
ardent (ātāpī), living the holy life (brahmacariya)."
