[155] 9. Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One, while walking on tour among the Mallas together with a large Saṅgha of bhikkhus, arrived at a brahmin village of the Mallas named Thūna. The brahmin householders of Thūna heard: "Sirs, it is said that the ascetic (samaṇa) Gotama, the son of the Sakyans, who has gone forth from the Sakyan family, walking on tour among the Mallas together with a large Saṅgha of bhikkhus, has arrived at Thūna." And they filled the well with grass and chaff up to its very brim, thinking, "May the shaveling ascetics not drink the water!"
