[159] 2. Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Sāvatthī, in the Jetavana, Anāthapiṇḍika's Park. Now on that occasion the Blessed One [1] was instructing, exhorting, inspiring, and gladdening the bhikkhus with a talk on the Dhamma connected with Nibbāna. And those bhikkhus—treating it as of vital concern, attending to it, focusing upon it with their whole mind—were listening to the Dhamma with eager ears. Then the Blessed One, understanding this matter, at that time uttered this inspired utterance (udāna):
Hard to see is that named "the uninclined" (anata);
for the truth is not easy to see.
For one who knows, craving (taṇhā) has been penetrated;
for one who sees, there is nothing.
