[194] 6. This indeed was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant — so I have heard:
"Bhikkhus, for a bhikkhu who is a learner (sekha), who has not yet attained the mind's ideal, who dwells aspiring to the unsurpassed security from bondage (yogakkhema), I do not see even a single other factor which, taken as an internal factor, is so helpful as this — careful attention (yoniso manasikāra). Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu attending carefully abandons the unwholesome and develops the wholesome."
The Blessed One spoke this matter. In this connection, it is said:
Careful attention is a quality for a bhikkhu who is a learner:
there is no other so helpful for the attainment of the highest goal.
Striving carefully, a bhikkhu attains the destruction of suffering (dukkha).
This matter, too, was spoken by the Blessed One — so I have heard. The Sixth.
