[193] 5. This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant — so I have heard:
"Bhikkhus, I do not see even a single other fetter (saṃyojana), fettered by which beings run on and wander thus for a long time, as this fetter of craving (taṇhā). For fettered by the fetter of craving, bhikkhus, beings run on and wander for a long time."
The Blessed One spoke this matter. Concerning it, this is said:
A person with craving as his companion, wandering on the long journey,
does not pass beyond saṃsāra, with its being thus and its being otherwise.
Having known this danger (ādīnava) — craving, the origin of suffering (dukkha) —
free from craving, without grasping, mindful (sato), let a bhikkhu wander forth.
This matter, too, was spoken by the Blessed One — so I have heard.
