[197] Truly, this was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:
"Bhikkhus, one thing (ekadhamma), when it arises in the world, arises for the welfare of many people, for the happiness of many people, for the good of many people, for the welfare and happiness of devas and human beings. What is that one thing? The concord of the Saṅgha (saṅghassa sāmaggī). Bhikkhus, when the Saṅgha is in concord, there are no mutual quarrels, no mutual abuse, no mutual disparagement, and no mutual rejection; therein those who are without confidence gain confidence, and those who have confidence become still more confident."
The Blessed One spoke this matter. In this connection it is said:
"Happy is the concord of the Saṅgha,
and the aiding of those who are in concord;
one who delights in concord, established in the Dhamma,
does not fall away from security from bondage (yogakkhema).
Having made the Saṅgha concordant,
he rejoices in heaven for an aeon (kappa)."
This matter too was spoken by the Blessed One — so I have heard.
The ninth [sutta is ended].
