[207] 2. This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:
"Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu who possesses two qualities (dhamma) dwells happily in this very life — without vexation, without despair, without fever — and with the breakup of the body, after death, a good destination (sugati) is to be expected. With which two? With guarding the doors of the sense faculties (indriyesu guttadvāratā) and with moderation in eating (bhojane mattaññutā). Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu who possesses these two qualities dwells happily in this very life — without vexation, without despair, without fever — and with the breakup of the body, after death, a good destination is to be expected."
The Blessed One spoke this meaning. With regard to it, this is said:
Eye and ear and nose, tongue, body, and also mind —
the bhikkhu in whom these doors are well guarded,
who knows moderation in food and is restrained in the sense faculties,
attains happiness: happiness of body and happiness of mind.
With body unburning, with mind unburning,
whether by day or by night, such a one dwells happily.
This meaning too was spoken by the Blessed One; so I have heard.
