[232] This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:
"Bhikkhus, there are these three searches (esanā). What three? The search for sensual pleasures (kāmesanā), the search for existence (bhavesanā), and the search for the holy life (brahmacariyesanā). These, bhikkhus, are the three searches."
The Blessed One spoke this meaning. Concerning that, it is said:
"Concentrated (samāhito), clearly comprehending (sampajāno), and mindful (sato),
the disciple of the Buddha
understands the searches and the origin of the searches,
where these cease, and the path (magga) leading to their destruction.
With the destruction of the searches, a bhikkhu,
free from hunger, is fully quenched (parinibbuto)."
This meaning too was spoken by the Blessed One; so I have heard.
