[239] 2. This indeed was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant (arahant), so I have heard:
"Bhikkhus, there are these three eyes. What three? The fleshly eye (maṃsacakkhu), the divine eye (dibbacakkhu), and the eye of wisdom (paññācakkhu). These, bhikkhus, are the three eyes."
The Blessed One spoke this matter. In that connection, this is said:
The fleshly eye, the divine eye,
and the eye of wisdom, unsurpassed—
these three eyes
the Supreme Person (purisuttama) has declared.
The arising of the fleshly eye
is the path (magga) to the divine eye;
and when knowledge (ñāṇa) has arisen—
the unsurpassed eye of wisdom—
then through the gaining of that eye
one is released from all suffering (dukkha).
This matter too was spoken by the Blessed One; so I have heard.
