[240] 3. This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant — so I have heard:
"Bhikkhus, there are these three faculties (indriya). What three? The 'I shall come to know the unknown' faculty (anaññātaññassāmītindriya), the perfect-knowledge faculty (aññindriya), and the perfect-knower faculty (aññātāvindriya). These, bhikkhus, are the three faculties."
The Blessed One spoke this meaning. In that connection, this is said:
"For a trainee (sekha) in training,
following along the straight path:
first comes the knowledge (ñāṇa) of destruction;
immediately thereafter, perfect knowledge (aññā).
After that perfect knowledge, for the one released,
the steadfast one, there is indeed the knowledge:
'Unshakable is my liberation' —
with the destruction of the fetters (saṃyojana) of existence.
If he is accomplished in the faculties,
at peace, delighting in the state of peace,
he bears his final body,
having conquered Māra together with his mount."
This meaning too was spoken by the Blessed One — so I have heard. The Third.
