[241] This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, so I have heard:
"Bhikkhus, there are these three periods (addhā). What three? The past period, the future period, and the present period. These, bhikkhus, are the three periods."
The Blessed One spoke this meaning. In that connection, this is said:
"Beings who perceive what can be expressed,
established upon what can be expressed,
not fully understanding what can be expressed,
come under the yoke of Death.
But having fully understood what can be expressed,
one does not conceive 'one who expresses';
liberation, the unsurpassed state of peace,
has been touched with the mind.
He indeed, accomplished in what can be expressed—
at peace, delighting in the state of peace,
making use [of things] after reflection, standing firm in the Dhamma—
a master of knowledge, he does not come to reckoning."
This meaning too was spoken by the Blessed One; so I have heard.
