[299] Then the brahmin Kasibhāradvāja, having heaped milk-rice (pāyāsa) into a large bronze dish, presented it to the Blessed One, saying: "Let Master Gotama eat the milk-rice! The worthy one is a plowman, for Master Gotama plows the plowing that has the Deathless (amata) as its fruit."
[The Blessed One replied in verse:]
What is chanted over with verses is not fit for me to eat;
this, brahmin, is not the way (dhamma) of those who see clearly.
The Buddhas reject what has been chanted over with verses;
while the Dhamma exists, brahmin, this is their way of conduct.

But the consummate one (kevalin), the great seer,
whose taints (āsava) are destroyed and whose remorse (kukkucca) is stilled —
serve him with other food and drink;
for that is the field for one who looks for merit.
