[404] "Could there be, in yet another way, …?" … And how could there be? "Bhikkhus, the formless (arūpa) states are more peaceful than forms (rūpa)": this is one contemplation. "Cessation (nirodha) is more peaceful than the formless states": this is the second contemplation. For one who thus rightly contemplates the dyads … Then the Teacher said this further:
Those beings who go to form, and those who abide in the formless,
not understanding cessation, will come back to renewed existence (punabbhava).
But those who, having fully understood forms, are well established in the formless,
are released in cessation itself — those people are the ones who leave death behind.
