[435] 11. "Having heard, O Hero, of you who have no desire for sensual pleasures,
(so said the venerable Jatukaṇṇī,)
I have come to question you, the desireless one, who have passed beyond the flood (ogha).
Tell of the state of peace (santipada), O One whose Eye arose together [with your awakening];²
tell me that, Blessed One, as it really is.
For the Blessed One fares on, having mastered sensual pleasures,
(as the blazing sun, with its blaze, [overpowers] the earth).
To me of little wisdom, O One of vast wisdom,
declare the Dhamma that I may come to know—
the abandoning, right here, of birth (jāti) and aging (jarā)."
"Dispel greed for sensual pleasures," (—Jatukaṇṇī, said the Blessed One—)
"having seen renunciation (nekkhamma) as security;
let nothing be found in you, whether taken up or cast off.
Dry up what was before; let there be nothing for you afterward;
if you will not grasp at anything in between, you will wander about at peace.
For one rid of greed for name-and-form (nāmarūpa) in every way, brahmin,
no taints (āsava) exist by which one would go under the sway of Death."
The Question of the Young Man Jatukaṇṇī, the Eleventh, [is concluded].
