[59] 8. Thus have I heard.
On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Kuṇḍiyā, in the Kuṇḍiṭṭhāna Grove. Now on that occasion Suppavāsā, the daughter of the Koliyas, had been bearing a child in her womb for seven years, and for seven days she had been in obstructed labor. Touched by painful, racking, bitter feelings (vedanā), she endured them with three thoughts: "Fully self-enlightened (sammāsambuddha) indeed is that Blessed One, who teaches the Dhamma for the abandonment of suffering (dukkha) such as this; practicing well indeed is the Saṅgha of disciples of that Blessed One, which practices for the abandonment of suffering such as this; exceedingly blissful indeed is Nibbāna, where suffering such as this is not found."
