[60] Then Suppavāsā the Koliyan daughter addressed her husband: "Come, my lord (ayyaputta), go to the Blessed One; and when you have approached him, pay homage in my name with your head at the Blessed One's feet, and ask whether he has little affliction and little ailment, whether he is buoyant, strong, and dwelling at ease, saying: 'Venerable sir, Suppavāsā the Koliyan daughter pays homage with her head at the Blessed One's feet; she asks whether he has little affliction and little ailment, whether he is buoyant, strong, and dwelling at ease.' And say this: 'Venerable sir, Suppavāsā the Koliyan daughter has borne a child in her womb for seven years, and for seven days she has been in obstructed labor (mūḷhagabbhā). Touched by painful, racking, sharp feelings (vedanā), she endures them with three thoughts: "Truly fully self-awakened (sammāsambuddha) is that Blessed One, who teaches the Dhamma for the abandoning of suffering (dukkha) such as this! Truly practicing well is the Saṅgha of disciples of that Blessed One, which is practicing for the abandoning of suffering such as this! Truly blissful is Nibbāna, where suffering such as this is not found!"'" "Excellent," the Koliyan (koliyaputta) replied to Suppavāsā the Koliyan daughter, and he approached the Blessed One; having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, he sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, the Koliyan said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, Suppavāsā the Koliyan daughter pays homage with her head at the Blessed One's feet; she asks whether he has little affliction and little ailment, whether he is buoyant, strong, and dwelling at ease. And she says this: 'Suppavāsā the Koliyan daughter has borne a child in her womb for seven years, and for seven days she has been in obstructed labor. [The Blessed One said:] "May Suppavāsā the Koliyan daughter be happy; free from illness, may she give birth to a son free from illness." And simultaneously with the Blessed One's utterance, Suppavāsā the Koliyan daughter, happy and free from illness, gave birth to a son free from illness. Saying, "So be it, venerable sir," the Koliyan, having delighted in and rejoiced at the Blessed One's words, rose from his seat, paid homage to the Blessed One, circumambulated him keeping his right side toward him, and returned to his own house. And the Koliyan saw that Suppavāsā the Koliyan daughter, happy and free from illness, had given birth to a son free from illness. When he saw this, it occurred to him: "It is wonderful indeed, sir! It is marvelous indeed, sir!—the great spiritual power (iddhi) and great might of the Tathāgata—in that this Suppavāsā the Koliyan daughter, simultaneously with the Blessed One's utterance, should, happy and free from illness, give birth to a son free from illness!" He was pleased and delighted, filled with rapture (pīti) and joy (somanassa).
