[6] Many devas and humans,
longing for well-being,
have pondered on blessings (maṅgala):
pray declare the highest blessing.
Not associating with fools,
associating with the wise,
and honoring those worthy of honor² —
this is the highest blessing.
Living in a suitable region,
having made merit in the past,
and setting oneself in the right course —
this is the highest blessing.

Great learning and skill in crafts,
a discipline well trained,
and speech that is well spoken —
this is the highest blessing.
Support of mother and father,
care for children and wife,
and work that is not left in disarray —
this is the highest blessing.
Giving (dāna) and righteous conduct,
support of relatives,
and blameless deeds —
this is the highest blessing.
Desisting and abstaining from evil,
restraint from drinking intoxicants,
and heedfulness with regard to dhammas —
this is the highest blessing.
Respect and humility,
contentment and gratitude,
the timely hearing of the Dhamma —
this is the highest blessing.
Patience and amenability to correction,
the sight of ascetics (samaṇa),
and timely discussion of the Dhamma —
this is the highest blessing.
Austerity (tapa) and the holy life,
the seeing of the noble truths (ariyasacca),
and the realization of Nibbāna —
this is the highest blessing.
One whose mind (citta), when touched
by worldly conditions, does not tremble —
sorrowless, stainless, secure —
this is the highest blessing.
Having done such things as these,
unvanquished everywhere,
they go everywhere in safety:
that is for them the highest blessing.
