"Desiring which [goal] among the dhammas
my preceptor (upajjhāya) gave his aid to me
as I longed for the Deathless (amata) —
what was to be done has been done by me.
The Dhamma has been attained, realized by myself;
it is not a matter of hearsay.
With knowledge (ñāṇa) purified, free from doubt,
I declare it in your presence.
I know my former abodes (pubbenivāsa);
the divine eye (dibbacakkhu) has been purified;
my own goal has been attained;
the Buddha's teaching has been done.
The training (sikkhā) was well learned by me, heedful,
in your dispensation;
all my taints (āsava) are destroyed;
now there is no renewed existence (punabbhava).
You instructed me with noble conduct;
compassionate, you gave me your aid;
your admonition was not in vain —
I am your pupil, fully trained."
