[346] 12.
"He who, steadfast (dhīra), truly knows the word of his teachers,
and would abide by it and engender affection (pema) for it—
he indeed is called 'devoted' (bhattimā), and he is a wise man (paṇḍita);
and, having understood, he would be distinguished in the dhammas.
He whom mighty adversities, once arisen,
cannot paralyze as he reflects—
he indeed is called 'strong' (thāmavā), and he is a wise man;
and, having understood, he would be distinguished in the dhammas.
He who truly stands steady as the ocean, unstirred (aneja),
of profound wisdom, seeing the subtle meaning—
he indeed is called 'immovable' (asaṃhārika), and he is a wise man;
and, having understood, he would be distinguished in the dhammas.
He is deeply learned (bahussuta) and a bearer of the Dhamma (dhammadhara),
one who practices in accordance with the Dhamma (anudhammacārī)—
he indeed is called 'such a one' (tādisa), and he is a wise man;
and, having understood, he would be distinguished in the dhammas.
He who knows the meaning of what has been spoken,
and, having known the meaning, acts accordingly—
he indeed is called 'one who has the meaning within him' (atthantara), and he is a wise man;
and, having understood, he would be distinguished in the dhammas."
