[420] 1. "See, Nandā, this bodily heap (samussaya) as afflicted, impure, putrid; develop the mind (citta) upon foulness (asubha), one-pointed, well concentrated. And develop the signless (animitta); cast off the latent tendency to conceit (mānānusaya); then, by breaking through conceit, you will wander at peace." Thus, it is said, did the Blessed One frequently exhort Nandā the sikkhamānā with these verses.
