[430] 1. Twenty-five years have passed since I went forth, yet I am not aware of having ever gained calm of mind (citta). Not having obtained peace of mind, without mastery over the mind, I was then stirred to a sense of urgency (saṃvega), recollecting the Conqueror's (jina) teaching. Because of many painful things, through my delight in heedfulness (appamāda), the destruction of craving (taṇhā) has been attained; the Buddha's teaching has been done. Today is the seventh night for me since craving was dried up. A certain Sāmā.
