[460] Having set up mindfulness (sati), a bhikkhunī with developed faculties,
I penetrated the peaceful state, the stilling of formations (saṅkhārā) — happiness.
[Māra:]
"In the name of what are you shaven-headed? You appear like a female ascetic (samaṇī);
yet you do not approve of the sectarian creeds (pāsaṇḍa) — why do you go about like this, bewildered?"
[The Therī Cālā:]
"The sectarians outside of this [dispensation] are dependent upon views (diṭṭhi);
they do not understand the Dhamma; they are not skilled in the Dhamma.
There is one born in the Sakyan clan, the Buddha, without a peer;
he taught me the Dhamma, the complete transcending of views —
suffering (dukkha), the arising of suffering, and the overcoming of suffering,
and the noble eightfold path (magga) leading to the stilling of suffering.
Having heard his word, I dwelt delighting in the teaching (sāsana);
the three true knowledges (vijjā) have been attained; the Buddha's teaching has been done.
Everywhere delight has been destroyed; the mass of darkness has been shattered.
Know thus, Evil One: you are struck down, O Ender (Antaka)."
