[168] "There sets the One with Vision (cakkhumā), the sole king,
golden-hued, who illumines the earth.
I pay homage to him, the golden-hued one who illumines the earth:
guarded by you this day, may we dwell through the night.
Those brahmins who have attained to knowledge (vedagū) in all things (sabbadhamme) —
to them my homage; and may they protect me.
Homage to the Buddhas, homage to awakening (bodhi);
homage to the liberated ones, homage to liberation (vimutti)."
Having made this protective charm (paritta), the peacock settled down to dwell.
