"He whom among the devas they call Sujampati —
in the world of humans they call him Maghavā:
instructed by him I have come here,
a mendicant (vanibbaka), to beg for your eyes (cakkhupathāni).
A mendicant am I: grant me my unsurpassed request —
being asked, give me your eyes;
give me that unsurpassed path of sight,
which they call the eye, so hard for a man to relinquish."
"For whatever purpose you have come,
whatever aim you were desiring —
may those intentions of yours succeed:
obtain the eyes, brahmin!
Though you beg for but one, I give you both.
Go, then, possessed of sight, while the people look on;
whatever you wish, may that be fulfilled for you."
