Dakarakkhasajātaka

Suttapiṭaka · Khuddakanikāya · Jātaka (1) · Vol. 27 · Section 2374

[2374] She who bore you and reared you, long compassionate toward you — when Chabbhi turned against you with evil intent,¹ she, wise and discerning of your good, contrived another in your place and freed you from being put to death. Such a mother — the giver of your life, who nurtured you at her own breast, who carried you in her womb — for what fault would you give her to the water demon (dakarakkhī)? ¹ Variant (Burmese edition): *padussati* ("plots against [you]").
