[1042] "He whom you addressed as a young man (māṇava), O lord of people —
he is no human being, O supreme hero among men.
If you have heard of him: he is the yakkha named Puṇṇaka,
for he is a minister of King Kuvera.
There is a nāga named Varuṇa, upholder of the earth,
great of stature, pure, endowed with beauty and strength;
desiring the daughter born of him —
the nāga maiden named Irandatī —
for the sake of that beloved one of slender waist,
he undertook to bring about my death.
But he has now been united with his wife,
and I have been given leave, and the gem has been received."
