[1065] Hastening, the messenger (kattā) went there and said to Vessantara:
"I shall make known suffering (dukkha) to you; do not be angry with me, O bull among charioteers (rathesabha)."
Paying homage, weeping, that messenger said to the king:
"You are my supporter, O great king, bringer of every desirable taste;
I shall make known suffering to you — for that, may you give me comfort.
Sire, the Sivis, angry with you, have assembled — the townsfolk too,
the nobles (uggā) and the princes, the merchants and farmers (vesiyānā), and the brahmins (brāhmaṇā);
elephant riders, guardsmen of the ranks (anīkaṭṭhā), charioteers, and foot soldiers —
the whole town, indeed, and the Sivis as well have assembled.
At the waning of this night, toward the rising of the sun,
the Sivis, having become united, will banish you from the realm."
