[1207] Taking Maddī by the hand, together with the water-vessel (kamaṇḍalu), the promoter of the Sivis' realm gave her as a gift (dāna) to the brahmin. Then there was something terrifying, then something that made the hair stand on end: as he gave Maddī away, the earth quaked. Maddī showed him no frown; she was not sullen, nor did she weep; she only gazed at him in silence: "He knows what is best."
