"Jāli, my daughter Kaṇhājinā,
and Queen Maddī, a wife devoted to her husband —
in giving them up I gave it no thought,
for the sake of awakening (bodhi) alone.
Not hateful to me were my two children,
nor was Queen Maddī not dear to me;
omniscience (sabbaññutā) was dear to me:
therefore I gave away those who were dear."
