[1208] "Jāli, my daughter Kaṇhājinā, and Queen Maddī, a wife devoted to her husband — in giving them up I gave it no thought, for the sake of awakening (bodhi) alone. Not hateful to me were my two children, nor was Queen Maddī not dear to me; omniscience (sabbaññutā) was dear to me: therefore I gave away those who were dear." [Variant readings in the Siam Raṭṭha apparatus, Burmese edition (ม.): ¹ "nappaṭiguyhāmi"; ² "sampakampatha"; ³ "neva sā Maddī bhākuṭī"; ⁴ "tuṇhī sā". Notes ²–⁴ (and apparently ¹) pertain to adjacent verses on the same printed page, not to words within this excerpt.]
