[1213] "If you grant me a boon, O Sakka, lord of all beings,
may my father welcome me when I have come from here to my own home,
and may he invite me with a seat — this first boon I choose.
May I not approve the slaying of any man, even of one who has done a wicked deed;
may I free the condemned from execution — this second boon I choose.
May those who are aged, those who are young, and those of middle age
live in dependence upon me alone — this third boon I choose.
May I not go to another's wife; may I be devoted to my own wife;
may I not fall under the sway of women — this fourth boon I choose.
May a son be born to me, O Sakka, and may he be long-lived;
may he conquer the earth by righteousness — this fifth boon I choose.
Then, at the passing of night, toward the rising of the sun,
may heavenly foods appear — this sixth boon I choose.
While I am giving, may [my wealth] never be exhausted; having given, may I feel no regret;
while giving, may I gladden my mind (citta) — this seventh boon I choose.
When I am released from here, may I go to heaven (sagga), reaching the distinguished state,
and may I not be reborn from there — this eighth boon I choose."
