[250] One should give a little out of little, a middling gift out of middling means; out of much one should give much — not to give is never fitting. This I say to you, Kosiya: give gifts (dāna) and eat as well; ascend the path of the noble ones (ariyamagga), for one who eats alone gains no happiness.
