[274] Thereupon, approved by the supreme deva and sent forth,
the four maidens whose skin was like gold —
Āsā, Saddhā, Sirī, and then Hirī —
came to that hermitage where Kosiya dwelt.
Seeing them all, supremely joyful,
their complexions lovely as the crest of a fire —
the four maidens, four at the four quarters —
he spoke thus in the very presence of Mātali:
"Who are you, goddess, that shine upon the eastern quarter,
adorned like Osadhī, most excellent of stars?
I ask you, O you whose body is like a golden creeper:
declare to me — which goddess (devatā) are you?"
