"Giving (dāna), taming (dama), relinquishment (cāga), and also restraint (saṃyama) —
taking these up, people sometimes practice them out of faith (saddhā);
but theft, falsehood, fraud, and also slander
some commit, then again, fallen away from you.
Even when a man, with eyes to see, has wives who are his equals,
endowed with virtue (sīla) and devoted to their husband,
having driven out desire (chanda) even for those women of good family,
he places his faith instead in a water-jar slave-girl (kumbhadāsī).
You yourself, O Saddhā, consorting with the wives of others,
do evil and forsake the wholesome (kusala);
one such as you deserves neither seat nor water —
how then the sudhā (celestial food)? Go! You do not please me."
