[478] "Do you hear, Sīvalī, the verses (gāthā) proclaimed by the young girl?
A mere serving-girl has rebuked me — such is the lot of one who goes with a second.

This forked road, good lady, has been trodden by wayfarers:
of these, do you take the one, and I shall take the other;
and¹ no more must you say of me, 'my husband,' nor shall I say of you again², 'my wife.'"
Speaking just this, they came to the city of Thūṇa.
At an arrow-maker's gateway, when the meal-time was at hand —
there that arrow-maker, a shaft having been made straight,
shutting one eye, was sighting with the other for any crook in it.
