[535] Then the king of Videha, ruler of Mithilā, making haste, rose from his seat and, foremost, mounted the chariot. When he had mounted the divine chariot, Mātali said this to him: "By which road shall I lead you, O best of kings, lord of the directions — the one where those whose deeds are evil [are], or [where are] the people whose deeds are meritorious?"
