[540] Nemi indeed addressed Mātali, seeing the people falling in the treacherous depths: "Fear indeed comes upon me, charioteer, at the sight. I ask you, Mātali, charioteer of the devas: what evil, pray, have these mortals done — these people who are falling into the Vetaraṇī?"
