[58] If utterance (udīraṇā), through destiny (saṅgati), conforms to being (bhāva),
and if, without willing it, one does what ought not to be done or even what ought to be done,
then, where the deed is unwilled, who here is stained by evil?
If that meaning (attha) and that doctrine (dhamma) are good and not evil,
and if your honour's word is true, then well slain was the monkey by me.
For if you should recognize the fault of your own doctrine (vāda),
you would not blame me — for such is your honour's doctrine.
