"If the Lord (issara) ordains the life of all the world —
its prosperity and its ruin,
and deeds both good and evil —
then man is but the doer of His bidding,
and it is the Lord who is stained thereby.
If that be the meaning (attha) and the principle (dhamma) — good and not evil —
and if your worship's word is true,
then the monkey was well slain by me.
For if you but understood the fault of your own doctrine (vāda),
you would not censure me;
for such indeed is your worship's doctrine."
