[60] If it is by reason of what was done in the past (pubbekatahetu) that one comes to happiness and suffering (sukhadukkha),
then this one is freed of that debt — the evil (pāpa) that was done of old;
and this being release from an old debt, how could anyone here be stained by evil?
If that meaning (attha) and that principle (dhamma) are good and not evil,
and if your word is true, then the monkey was well slain by me.
For if you could recognize the fault of your own doctrine (vāda),
you would not blame me; for such indeed is your doctrine.
