[593] Questioned by him, Mātali the deva-charioteer answered;
knowing the result (vipāka) of meritorious deeds (puññakamma),
he who knew declared it to one who knew not:
"That which they call Cittakūṭa, the entryway of the king of devas —
this indeed appears as the gate of Mount Sudassana;
splendid, of many forms, variously adorned it appears,
thronged with figures like Inda, well guarded as though by tigers.
Enter by this, O royal sage; step forth upon the unblemished ground."
