[820] Having reared Canda with much suffering (dukkha), mother, you are now bereft of your son;
I bow at your feet — may father obtain the world beyond (paraloka).
Come now, embrace me; grant, mother, that I may bow at your feet;
now I go away from home, for the sake of the sacrifice (yañña) of Ekarāja.
Come now, embrace me; grant, mother, that I may bow at your feet;
now I go away from home, having wrought grief in my mother's heart.
Come now, embrace me; grant, mother, that I may bow at your feet;
now I go away from home, having wrought grief in the hearts of the people.
